A knife-wielding man has been tasered and arrested after a woman was found dead in a home in Sydney‘s southwest.
Emergency services rushed to a home on Wattle Street in Bankstown at 7pm on Sunday night after hearing reports of a small fire at a property.
After extinguishing the blaze at the back of the property, firefighters discovered a woman suffering significant head injuries inside.

Police officers who arrived at the home were then allegedly confronted by a man armed with a knife.
They deployed a taser in order to subdue the 31-year-old man and take him into custody.
The 67-year-old woman was assessed by paramedics before being declared dead.
She is yet to be formally identified NSW Police have confirmed she was known to the man.
‘A crime scene was established and detectives have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident under Strike Force Panhandle,’ a spokesperson said in a statement.
The man was taken to Bankstown Police Station before being transferred to hospital for assessment.
Charges have not yet been laid.
