An aircraft over Seattle appeared to be on fire in videos posted online on Saturday night, sparking fear on social media — but the incident was a false alarm.
‘It was a sky diver with pyrotechnics for the Sounders Game occurring this evening over at Lumen Field,’ a Seattle Police Department spokesperson told DailyMail.com, referring to the city’s MLS club.
Photos and videos posted to social media showed an aircraft with twin streaks of flames extending behind it.
Some of the images depicted the streaks of flames veering off in separate directions.

The images, which were first posted on X at around 7.30pm local time, sparked confusion and panic on the platform.
‘Looks like a passenger plane engine exploded mid air in Seattle,’ one person wrote.
‘Um, what were those falling fireballs in the Seattle sky just now?’ wrote another.
Yet another asked: ‘What in the name is going on in Seattle’?
