Mitchell Wasek, 28 was arrested on 28 charges of invasive visual recordings last week

The son of Buc-ee’s co-founder Donald Wasek has been forced out of his luxury Dallas penthouse after being charged with secretly filming guests ‘in various states of undress’ at the home and at several of his father’s properties, DailyMail.com can reveal.

Mitchell Wasek, 28, vacated his cushy $4,700-a-month top floor rental unit in The Village Drey apartment complex this week after learning he was facing eviction in the wake of his arrest, according to staff.

‘Clearly he was not going to be permitted to stay there,’ complex spokesman David Margulies told DailyMail.com.

‘It sounds like his lawyer figured out he was going to get evicted, contacted the village management and arranged for him to vacate.’

Waskek was arrested on October 3 on 28 charges of invasive visual recordings after witnesses discovered he had used a spy camera to record them and others ‘using toilets, showering, changing clothes, and/or having sex’, and reported it to police.

Wasek had lived alone in the $4,700-a-month apartment unit which features a wrap-around deck and is located within a resort community with its own upscale restaurants and golf course

He has remained in hiding since he was released the same day on $280,000 bond, and hired professional movers to empty out his posh penthouse near Southern Methodist University, where he is studying law.

‘I guess you never really know who your neighbors are,’ one resident told DailyMail.com, shaking his head as the movers filed into the apartment building.

‘I’m relieved he’s gone.’

A resident who hosted a recent party in the building said, half-jokingly: ‘I guess I need to check for cameras.’

A few hours later, the crew drove off on a three-hour trip to Austin, where they dropped off the boxes in a U-Haul storage facility, just down the street from one of Wasek’s father’s properties, a $7.5million downtown apartment .

Wasek is accused of recording guests with hidden cameras installed at his father’s $8.2million estate on the banks of Lake Travis in Texas, the luxury hi-rise in Austin, a vacation home in Telluride, Colorado, and the Dallas rental.

One woman who was in multiple videos told investigators she recognized footage of herself with another friend changing into their costumes in Wasek’s bathroom at the penthouse for his Halloween party on October 29, 2022, according to the affidavit.

Wasek had lived alone in the apartment unit which features a wrap-around deck and is located within a resort community with its own upscale restaurants and golf course.

Several residents told DailyMail.com that they had no idea anything was amiss – until last month when police showed up with a search warrant.

They recalled seeing the officers gathering in the basement before making their way up to the fifth-floor unit.

But it wasn’t until the arrest early last week that they became aware of the shocking reason behind the operation.

The Village spokesman told DailyMail.com that charges against Wasek also came as a shock to management which had received no prior complaints about the law student who had lived there for more than a year.

‘We only became aware of this when the police became involved,’ Margulies said.

‘He passed a background check before moving in. Obviously, nobody knew about this. He had no known issues while he was here.’

Wasek’s alleged secret scheme came to light in May, when police received a phone complaint alleging improper photography at the Lake Travis house owned by Donald Wasek.

According to the affidavit, a woman said she and some friends had recently visited the property with Mitchell Wasek when one person who works in cybersecurity for the Department of Defense, spotted a charging port with a concealed camera plugged into the wall of their bathroom.

The group of friends then left the home with the device and later discovered the camera’s micro-card contained dozens of videos of themselves and others in bedrooms and bathrooms at the lake house and beyond.

‘They were unaware that the recordings existed in the bedroom and bathroom, and indicated they did not consent to being recorded or photographed,’ the affidavit states.

The woman informed the Travis County Sheriff that a police report was filed with the Dallas Police Department and that the camera and micro-card had been turned over to them.

A warrant was obtained to review the contents on the camera and discovered 68 movie files, recorded in at least eight separate rooms at several locations dating back to 2021.

The affidavit alleges Wasek had installed spy cameras in bedrooms and bathrooms as he entertained guests at various family properties, recording at least 13 people as far back as 2021.

Purchases of ‘spy cameras’ were also allegedly linked to Mitchell Wasek using Amazon records.

The complainants all reported Mitchell Wasek to be there at the time of the offenses, when no other Wasek family member were present.

The arrest of the son of the man behind the beloved Buc-ee’s convenience stores has also shocked many in Texas who have fueled their cars at the stations, shopped in their supersized stores, and used their ultra-clean public bathrooms.

A sign advertising the stores along Interstate 35 in Texas reads, ‘RESTROOMS THAT MAKE MOM SMILE.’

The company, founded in Wasek’s former hometown in Lake Jackson, Texas, in 1982 has expanded with dozens of locations nationwide, and brought in $275million in revenue in 2017, according to Forbes.

Investigators, in reviewing the video files discovered at the Lake Travis house, reported no evidence that Wasek hid cameras in the stores themselves.

The family now lives in Spicewood, 50 miles northwest of Austtin, in an affluent, gated neighborhood, a couple miles down the road from legendary musician Willie Nelson.

Neighbors in Spicewood and Dallas tell DailyMail.com that they rarely see Wasek out and about, but appeared to be quite familiar with the family name as they gushed about Buc-ee’s.

Meanwhile social media users from the Waseks’ former hometown have been buzzing with chatter and gossip.

‘We knew him growing up,’ Glenda, an elderly local, commented while posting the arrest story on Facebook.

‘His parents were very nice businesspeople. I have his mom’s lamps in my house after she passed away.’

‘Thank you for sharing Glenda,’ a friend of hers named Kathy replied. ‘After you knowing his nice parents and their son to turn out like this.’

‘His dad (Don) got into trouble also as a young man before he married,’ Glenda responded.

‘My son was very good friends with him as a teen,’ friend Rebecca wrote. ‘So sad for the whole family.’

‘Some things money can’t buy,’ Lois added.

Wasek’s own Facebook page features joyful pictures of himself with friends, one of him smiling widely into the lens as he cuddles up with a woman in a red Christmas outfit.

Another shows him partying with 16 friends holding red plastic cups in a pool overlooking a lake.

Mitchell Wasek is also a high stakes poker player, earning nearly $70,000, according to one website.

He was listed as competing in the World Series of Poker in July, winning $44,700, and finishing second with over $11,000 at a tournament in June.
