Shocking footage shows the moment a gang attempts to assassinate a man outside a Seattle daycare facility, forcing children to crawl to safety amid the crossfire.

The horrifying incident took place Monday in front of the A for Apple Learning Center, while around 24 children were inside.

As the hail of bullets began, kids were forced to duck for cover as windows in front of where they had been sat shattered.

A 47-year-old man was rushed to the hospital with what the daycare described as ‘minor injuries.’

Co-owner Appollonia Washington told Komo News: ‘We were transitioning from circle time and I just immediately said you guys army crawl, teachers army crawl, I think been shot and confirmed it when I saw the glass break over there.’

In the video taken on Monday, the unnamed victim can be seen walking down the street wearing a white jacket.  As he walks, a silver Chevy Suburban begins to pull up alongside. As the vehicle nears him, an arm appears out of the passenger side window holding a gun.

The gunman fires at least five shots at the man. The victim then immediately crumples and hits the ground.

The vehicle continues on the road and disappears from view, leaving the man lying face down on the sidewalk.

Police have yet to make any arrests and the investigation is ongoing.

Washington added: ‘ I don’t want to ever experience this again, can we get patrol can we get officers walking by you know this is, this freaks me out.’

‘I had 24 children sitting in front of me and they knew exactly what we do because this is something that we practice because of the area that we are in.’

The daycare facility released a statement in the aftermath which said: ‘The shooting left windows broken and glass shattered where the children were sitting.

‘Our hearts are broken by this occurrence as it is our life’s mission to educate and nourish our children, parents, and trust their children come to school each day with the expectation that they will be safe and educated.’

The statement added the Democrat-led area has been ‘plagued by violence for the past two years’ and that its pleas to the mayor and community leaders have fallen on deaf ears.

Last year, the number of crimes in the city hit a record high of 49,577, with more than 5,500 cases classed as violent crimes,

Meanwhile the number of homicides in the Washington city increased by almost a quarter to 52, compared to 42 in 2021.

The target of the attack was taken to hospital with minor injuries, but no suspect has been apprehended yet

Seattle police told KOMO it would increase patrols in the area.

In a statement to the outlet, a spokesman at the Mayor’s Office said: ‘Mayor (Bruce) Harrell believes every community deserves to feel safe and be safe, and this shooting is both scary and tragic for impacted residents and our broader Seattle community.

‘After inheriting a historic SPD staffing low, Mayor Harrell has made it a priority to drive meaningful improvements in both officer recruitment and retention efforts to keep and attract applicants who share the values of the city and reflect the diversity of its communities.

‘Mayor Harrell’s budget proposal makes critical investments in reducing gun violence, which requires a holistic approach including thorough investigations, community-based programs, new technologies, and upstream solutions.

‘Mayor Harrell will continue to pursue policy changes to reduce gun violence at the state legislative level, as the City is prohibited from setting our gun laws due to state preemption.’
