This is the terrifying moment former Neighbours star Jason Donovan is ‘nearly hit’ by a London bus, in a video filmed by Jeremy Vine.

Cyclist enthusiast and television host Vine, 58, happened to bump into his famous friend, 55, while sat on his bike at traffic lights on Oxford Street.

Donovan is seen taking out his earphones, before asking ‘Is that you Jeremy?’ while Vine replies ‘Jason, it’s you.’

The pair carry on chatting as they cycle down the busy road. As Donovan pulled closer to the curb a London City Sightseeing bus to weave around the corner, coming extremely close to the biker.

Outraged Vine then calls out ‘how he can he do that, how can the bus go that close to you?’ before slamming the driver as ‘terrible’.

Vine is an enthusiastic cyclist and has praised the expansion of cycle lanes in London. He is pictured here in 2019 on a Brompton folding bicycle – with a GoPro action camera on his head

Donovan, however, appeared unbothered, commenting instead on Vine’s ‘great helmet’ that has a camera attached on top to catch careless drivers across the capital.

Reacting to the video, broadcaster Dawn Neesom said: ‘Surreal on so many levels.’

Another said: ‘Never seen a man care less about almost being hit by a London bus. Fair play Jason.’

Others, however, criticised the pair for distracting each other on the roads.

One said: ‘Rather than proceed you have a chat, which delays him making progress.

‘Watch that back, I see a cyclist distracted by another wearing a long camera on his head, they decide to chat among the 20 ton moving buses. One distract the other slowing him down then bus nearly hits him.’

Another added: ‘Chatting to each other, and not concentrating, Donovan with earphones in, can’t hear anything, holds the bus up for no reason, realises too late, but pulls over to let the bus pass, so what does the bus do, wait till you’ve both finished your “famous mates” chat?’

Vine and Donovan then go, joking about the time the radio star spotted the actor while riding his penny farthing near Kensington Palace.

‘Look at this guy, he doesn’t even see me,’ says Vine. Vine catches up with the man, and shouts ‘six points on your licence’ to which the man responds ‘Good boy! I don’t have a licence’

Over the past few years, Vine’s social media accounts have become dominated with videos of his experiences as a cyclist in the city, dealing with road rage from drivers and near misses.

Last month the BBC star caught a foreign diplomat off-guard using a mobile phone and bragging ‘I don’t have a licence’ as he travelled through busy traffic in west London.

The video shows Vine cycling down Kensington High Street, just past the gated entrance of Kensington Palace, when he spots a driver using his mobile phone.

‘Look at this guy, he doesn’t even see me,’ says Vine.

He catches up with the man, and shouts ‘six points on your licence’ to which the man responds ‘Good boy! I don’t have a licence’.

But the driver shows no interest in talking further and drives away.

A search of the man’s registration number shows the vehicle is from Oman. Vine also zooms in on the ‘D’ on the registration plate.

‘I see, D for diplomat,’ he says, while the caption ‘Do as you like appears’.
