The fiancé of the Wisconsin newscaster who killed herself last year just weeks after her wedding was called off, got engaged, married and now is getting a divorce DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.
Beloved local Wausau reporter, Neena Pacholke, 27, shot herself in August 2022 after her then-fiancé, Kyle Haase, 39, called off their wedding.
But the ‘grieving’ fiancé wasted no time getting back into the dating scene. Just months after Neena’s death, Kyle was seen at a local store with a former lover – the same woman that Neena told friends she suspected he was cheating with and whose panties she found in their bedroom.
Months later, Kyle met 23-year-old Ashley Groshek out at a local bar and they hit it off instantly, a source told DailyMail.com.
The relationship moved at warp speed, culminating in an engagement in June and a September 9 wedding in Hatley, Wisconsin, attended by family and friends.
Now DailyMail.com has obtained court papers that show Kyle and Ashley jointly filed for divorce on October 18 after less than six weeks of marriage.
Neena Pacholke, 27, killed herself in August 2022 after fiancé Kyle Haase called off their wedding after she learned of his infidelity
DailyMail.com can reveal that months after her death, Kyle met 22-year-old Ashley Groshek and they were engaged and married a short time later
‘Kyle got engaged, married and now is divorcing all in a little over a year since his ex-fiancée took her own life,’ said a friend of Neena’s, who asked not to be identified.
‘His actions speak louder than words. I’m not sure how someone can fall in love, get married and file for divorce in that short of time after experiencing the loss of a fiancée. It’s obvious the lack of respect he had for Neena.’
Haase, who has two children from a previous marriage, still lives in the same house where Neena took her life in a bedroom. They had bought it together a month earlier. Kyle even lived in the house with his new bride for several weeks.
‘I’m glad Ashley is getting away from Kyle, for her own sanity. I just hope and pray Ashley is going to be okay,’ a friend said
Ashley is from nearby Amherst Junction, Wisconsin and has an associate degree in Agribusiness- Animal Science from Fox Valley Technical College, according to her LinkedIn page. She currently works as a reproductive technician at a dairy company.
Much like Haase’s tumultuous two-year relationship with Pacholke, his relationship with Groshek was marred with fights and altercations.
At a KISS concert in Crandon, Wisconsin, on September 1 – eight days before their wedding – sources say both Ashley and Kyle were drinking when Ashley went through his phone and saw that he had been texting other women. She became angry and attacked him.
Both Kyle and Ashley denied this event. They both emailed DailyMal.com with the exact same words: ‘None of that is true,’ while Ashley added: ‘Kyle has always been loyal to me.’
Then just days before they were scheduled to be married, Ashley’s bridal shower was cancelled at the last minute with no explanation.
‘No one is really surprised their marriage didn’t work out.
‘Not many people believed it was going to last, but what was surprising is that it only last 40 days,’ added the friend.
Kyle went to great lengths in keeping the details of his relationship with Neena under wraps from Ashley, added the pal.
When Kyle found out that Neena’s family was flying from Tampa to Wausau to celebrate her on her birthday on June 29 with her friends, Kyle took Ashley out of town for a ‘surprise weekend’ on a lake just so she wouldn’t run into Neena’s parents.
The weekend before Neena’s birthday Kyle asked Ashley to marry him. A source says the ring he gave Ashley looks like the one he gave Neena, even questioning that it may have been the same ring, with minor modifications.
A friend told DailyMail.com, ‘I just hope that Ashley finally realized the type of person Kyle is.’
‘Kyle got engaged, married and now is divorcing all in a little over a year since his ex-fiancée took her own life,’ said a friend, who chose to remain anonymous. Kyle and Ashley are pictured together
Divorce documents show that Kyle and Ashley jointly filed for divorce on October 18, 2023, after less than six weeks of marriage. Their next court appearance is not until March 2024
As previously reported by DailyMail.com, bubbly newscaster Pacholke took her own life on August 27, 2022, after Kyle broke up with her just seven weeks before they were due to marry. The split came after a tumultuous two-year romance filled with fights, arrests, heaving drinking and rumors of affairs.
Neena shot herself in the house the couple had just purchased a month prior for $390,000 in Wausau with a handgun she had bought just 90 minutes prior from a weapon store.
DailyMail.com obtained the full police report which details the efforts police and family members went to in the hours before she took her own life.
A worried friend had even called 911 and asked police to do a welfare check, but by the time they got there, Neena was already gone.
The report details how several officers went to Neena’s home on the morning of August 27 after she had made a number of suicidal comments in text messages.
The day before, a friend had removed all firearms from the home for fear of Neena’s precarious mental state.
Fiancé Kyle was on his way to Minnesota to see his mother along with his children but spoke to Neena who told him that she was ‘going to do something,’ however she was not specific.
Kyle then contacted the police asking them to do a welfare check on Neena’s home. He advised them of the code for the garage so the police could get inside.
When police went to the home at 11.20am there was no response.
Suddenly they heard a noise and clattering as if something had fallen. Police waited for around half an hour before finally forcing a door open.
Officers went into a bedroom where the smell of gunpowder lingered in the air.
They found Neena in a closet leaning against the wall with a firearm laying next to her right hand on the ground.
There was also a mark in the wall where the bullet had passed through her skull into the drywall.

Neena was the morning news anchor of local ABC affiliate WAOW-9 in Wisconsin. The police report details how several officers went to Neena’s home on the morning of August 27 after she had made a number of suicidal comments in text messages
On the dresser in the bedroom was a receipt from Zingers and Flingers firearm store where Neena had bought a 9mm handgun at 10am that morning together with a box of ammunition for $840.
The ammunition box had been left open on the dresser with three rounds missing from the box.
Neena’s phone had also been plugged in to charge on the dresser. The night before her death, she had made a number of searches on Google on how to end her life.
Neena left Kyle a message and an email saying that she loves him and was just hurting so badly she had to leave. Neena told him that she was sorry to do this to him, but the hurt was so much.
Her friends had said she always appeared more invested in her relationship with the father-of-two than he was.
‘They were always arguing, and it seemed like Neena was more in love with Kyle that he was with her,’ one friend told DailyMail.com.
Neena had also become suspicious that Kyle, who worked as a commercial sales manager at Imperial Industries, may have hooked up with a former lover.
The couple, who met at a funeral in November 2020 when he was still married, had been due to marry last year at the tony Barcelo Maya Palace all-inclusive resort in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico where rooms start at $550 night.
Neena decided to give up her apartment in downtown Wausau and move into Haase’s rental house. But they had a big fight in early July 2022 and he told her he was kicking her out.
She rented a U-Haul truck on July 8 and moved all her belongings to a friend’s house. She stayed at a local hotel for three days before they reconciled.
Neena, who grew up in Tampa and was a star basketball player at the University of South Florida, was a popular figure in her adopted hometown.
But her fiancé is not so admired. ‘I never liked him,’ one friend told DailyMail.com.
‘He was always the drunkest one at the bar,’ said another. He made good money and wasn’t afraid to let everyone know it.’
Kyle was arrested for a DUI on May 7, 2021, his blood alcohol level was .0.164, more than twice the legal limit for driving in Wisconsin and most states. The police report says his attitude was uncooperative, Neena was with him at the time and her blood alcohol level was .07.
The couple’s split came after a tumultuous two-year romance filled with fights, heavy drinking and rumors of affairs
Friends were devastated that Neena took her own life, ‘She always had a great smile on her face. But for her to commit suicide there must have been some life altering moment in her mind to take her own life,’ one said.
Sadly, just weeks before Neena killed herself, while she was anchoring the news there was a story about suicide. During the break she was overheard telling her co- anchor, ‘I just don’t understand how can anyone commit suicide? It’s such a selfish act. The person doesn’t realize how it affects everyone in their life.’
Neena’s parents gave an interview to WAOW-9, the ABC affiliate where she hosted the morning show Wake Up Wisconsin.
They confirmed she had suffered from mental health issues for years. Neena’s mother, Laurie Pacholke said, ‘She was getting treatment. I’ll put it out there – she had been to the crisis center a couple of times.
‘She had so many people here to talk to. She talked to people, but she didn’t want anybody to know how she was hurting so she didn’t talk until it got so bad.’
Added a friend of Neena’s, ‘I’m glad Ashley is getting away from Kyle, for her own sanity. I just hope and pray she is going to be okay.’
