Sven-Goran Eriksson and Jurgen Klopp have shared an emotional meeting ahead of the Liverpool Legends game which sees the former England manager live out a lifelong ambition.

Eriksson, who was diagnosed with terminal cancer a few months ago, wanted to manage Liverpool, and the club made the wish happen, by putting him on the touchline for the Legends game against Ajax on Saturday.

The pair met before the game, with the Swedish boss telling Jurgen Klopp ‘Congratulations. You’re doing great’, as part of a mutual respect between the two.

Saturday’s game won’t be Eriksson’s first visit to Anfield, as his England side played at the stadium twice, against Paraguay in 2002 and Uruguay in 2006.

The 76-year-old spent five years in charge of the England national team between 2001 and 2006, guiding the Three Lions to three successive quarter-finals at major tournaments.

Eriksson insists ‘life is beautiful’ and that he is doing everything he can to ‘have a normal life’ two months on from revealing his terminal pancreatic cancer diagnosis.
