In the footage a white Kia can be seen speeding along the street in front of Meeks’ home.

The vehicle pulls into an alleyway and one of the suspects immediately jumps out of the passenger side brandishing a gun.

He advances towards the couple while pointing the weapon directly at them.

Seconds later a second suspect, dressed in a dark hooded top, hops out and runs towards the scene. The video cuts out before the fatal shot is fired.

Since his death, tributes have poured in for the beloved rapper.

John Daniel, a close friend and director at Urban Grind TV who had known Meeks for more than 20 years described him as ‘one of the greatest people ever’.

He told ABC 7 Chicago: ‘That’s one of the few things that make sense about him because there’s no way he would ever let anything come to his wife.

‘They robbed the world of, perhaps, one of the greatest people ever.’

Police told the outlet that currently nobody is in custody following the killing.

The tragedy is the latest to occur in the crime-ridden city, which has seen robberies and car-jackings soar over the last year under the watch of ultra progressive mayor Brandon Johnson.

Johnson previously supported the Defund the Police movement and has been widely criticized for a soft-on-crime approach.

The number of motor vehicle thefts soared from 11,403 to 21,160, while robberies spiked by almost 25 per cent from 5,883 to 7,272

He has since attempted to distance himself from the movement and his latest budget projection keeps funding for police fairly flat, with just a 2.9 per cent rise in spending, WBEZ Chicago reports.

This is despite spiraling crime rates, which were up by almost a third in September compared to the same time in 2022.

The number of motor vehicle thefts soared from 11,403 to 21,160, while robberies spiked by almost 25 per cent from 5,883 to 7,272.

The city’s police department also continues to grapple with more than 1,000 vacancies within the force, with recruitment levels largely unchanged since Johnson took over from his disastrous predecessor Lori Lightfoot in May this year.

Johnson also faced a furious backlash after he claimed the the city should not ‘demonize’ teens for organizing an inner-city event that turned descended into violence and ended up with minors being shot.

He said that teens who rampaged through Chicago in April deserved sympathy, saying: ‘Demonizing children is wrong. We have to keep them safe as well’.
