Alleged killer yoga teacher Kaitlin Armstrong planned an escape from prison using a fake leg injury after being charged with killing her boyfriend’s cyclist ex lover.
The former yoga teacher, 35, was allegedly plotting her great escape from prison and requested offsite medical appointments for her ‘leg injury’ as a ploy to make her getaway.
After her failed escape, an affidavit claimed that the ex-yogi was observed to be vigorously exercising regularly despite the ‘injury’ during her time in the Travis County Correctional Complex. Her intense work-out regimen was documented on security footage.
Armstrong had also worn thermal trousers beneath her county-issued black and white striped uniform pants – which she stripped off during the foot pursuit to disguise her identity as an inmate, the affidavit indicated.
After the escape an investigation of Armstrong’s cell found a metal pin and dental floss. The metal pin had ‘been broken off providing a solid thin metal piece that likely could be used to manipulate a handcuff to be removed’, according to the affidavit.
Armstrong stands accused of shooting cyclist Moriah Wilson dead in Austin, Texas, in May 2022, who had dated Armstrong’s boyfriend Colin Strickland.
After the killing, Armstrong fled to Costa Rica where she had plastic surgery – likely a nose job – before being caught 43 days later.

Authorities said she got a nose job and dyed her hair brown after fleeing the US. She used her sister’s passport to leave the country and went by several aliases while on the run
The affidavit stated in summary: ‘Due to recent activity of exercising vigorously, and complaints of injury to secure offsite medical appointment, and restrictions of leg restraints, Affiant has reason to believe and does believe inmate Armstrong planned to escape from custody.’
The escape came well after Armstrong was offered a plea deal which would have shaved decades off her sentence – which she rejected.
Armstrong now faces even more time in prison for her attempt to escape from correctional officers on Wednesday.
Cellphone footage captured the moment the ex-yoga teacher broke free from two correctional officers after visiting a doctor’s office in Austin while they walked her back to the car on Wednesday.

Police said she bolted into a nearby neighborhood for about 10 minutes before she was captured.
This is not Armstrong’s first attempt at running away from the charges she is facing for Moriah Wilson’s murder.
The accused killer fled Texas after she was initially interviewed and travelled to Costa Rica.

Armstrong’s boyfriend Colin Strickland, 35, has since admitted that he did in fact have an affair with Wilson and said that the pair had gotten dinner together the night she was murdered.

She has pleaded not guilty to murdering ‘Mo’ Wilson – the competitive gravel and mountain bike racer from Vermont.
Armstrong’s boyfriend Colin Strickland, 35, has since admitted that he did in fact have an affair with Wilson and said that the pair had gotten dinner together the night she was murdered.
Wilson, who lived in California at the time, was in Austin, Texas, for a race and joined Strickland for a swim at the Deep Eddy pool before the secret couple went to a burger joint across the street for dinner.
Armstrong, who had allegedly been stalking Wilson, pulled up in her SUV near the apartment that Strickland had dropped his dinner date off at.
Armstrong was supposedly tracking Wilson using the app for cyclists and runners, Strava.

Search warrants revealed that she visited a gun range with her sister before the killing, and was given $450,000 by Strickland, who also admitted to purchasing two firearms between the end of 2021 and start of 2022 for himself and Armstrong.
She is likely to face additional charges for trying to escape. She is currently being held in Travis County Jail on $3.5 million bond.
Court records show that three subpoena applications have already been filed by the state after the attempted escape for information from St. David’s South Austin Medical Center, Travis County Sheriff’s Office and St. David’s Austin Medical Center.
Her jury trial is scheduled to start on October 30. She faces up to 99 years in prison if convicted.
