A man has been convicted of killing comedian Drew Carey’s ex-fiancée Amie Harwick by throwing her off a third-story balcony in Los Angeles.

Gareth Pursehouse, 45, was found guilty of murder and first-degree residential burglary with a special circumstance allegation of lying in wait by a jury on Thursday.

He killed sex therapist Harwick, 38, in February 2020, a decade after they had dated, and an autopsy report determined she died from blunt force injuries to the head and torso from a fall after an altercation.

She was also found to have been strangled and with wounds on her hands and fingers ‘consistent with a combination of defense and assault type wounds, suggestive of an altercation.’

Price is Right host Carey, 65, had been subpoenaed to testify in the murder trial after he exchanged text messages with Harwick, who he was engaged to in 2018, two days before she died.

Pursehouse faces a maximum sentence of life in state prison without the possibility of parole, according to Los Angeles District Attorney George Gascón.

‘Today, justice has been served for Amie Harwick and her loved ones who have endured unimaginable pain throughout this terrible ordeal,’ he said.

‘Our thoughts and support remain with them as they begin to heal.’

Harwick dated Pursehouse until 2011 when they broke up and she got a protective order against him and told friends she was afraid of him.

Los Angeles Police Department officers responded to reports of a ‘woman screaming’ and saw Harwick’s roommate in the street who said she was being assaulted inside their home.

Cops found Harwick ‘gravely injured’ and unresponsive below a third-story balcony.

Pursehouse was arrested days later at his Playa Del Rey home, released on a $2million bail, but was re-arrested two days later and formally charged with murder and burglary.

Prosecutors said he broke into Harwick’s Hollywood Hills home and waited for about four hours for her to return in an attempt to ‘catch her by surprise’ while he was carrying a syringe containing a ‘lethal’ dose of nicotine. He pled not guilty.

Harwick’s restraining order against Pursehouse, had recently expired when she saw him at a pornography industry awards party run by XBIZ magazine and hosted by porn legend Stormy Daniels just one month before her death.

She was reportedly at the January 16, 2020, party due to her work for a charity providing mental health support to women in the sex industry, while Pursehouse was there working as a photographer.

While there, Pursehouse and Harwick allegedly got into an argument, as he told her that she ruined his life and called her a ‘b****.’

Drew previously revealed he and Harwick got back in touch just two days before she was tragically killed

Comedian Drew previously revealed he and Harwick got back in touch just two days before she was tragically killed – when she messaged him to say she wanted to ‘get together and talk’, explaining that she had been thinking about ‘forgiveness’ a lot.

Speaking to CBS’ 48 Hours, Drew explained that the former couple never got the chance to meet up – but said he has found ‘solace’ in their final interaction, knowing he was able to tell her he loved her one last time.

‘Valentine’s Day was a Friday. I got a text from her on Thursday,’ he said.

Carey dated Harwick for two years before the pair split in 2018, months after announcing their engagement.

‘I hope you’re lucky enough to have someone in your life that loves as much as she did,’ Carey said on Twitter in February upon learning of her death.

Harwick was a prominent Hollywood marriage and sex therapist. She appeared on TV and radio shows and wrote a book called The New Sex Bible for Women.
