Matt Gaetz has again threatened to try and oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House – but said he would wait until later this week.

The Florida Republican accused McCarthy of setting up a ‘secret side deal’ with Joe Biden over Ukraine funding, as he stopped short of filing a ‘motion to vacate’ the Republican leader.

The firebrand has been critical of McCarthy during negotiations to avert a government shutdown and has led a conservative GOP rebellion.

Gaetz claimed Joe Biden was taking McCarthy’s lunch money over ‘side deals’ for more funding to Ukraine.

Only one member has to introduce a motion to vacate, and Gaetz would only need four Republicans and all the Democrats to join him to be successful.

Colleagues have fumed at hardline Gaetz, and reports suggest his colleagues want to speed up the ethics investigation into him to try and expel him from Congress

Matt Gaetz has again threatened to try and oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House – but said he would wait until later this week.

California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock said on Monday: ‘I cannot conceive of a more counterproductive and self-destructive course of action.’

McCarthy slapped back at Gaetz on Monday morning and said he was concerned by reports he wants to give Democrats subpoena power.

He told Fox and Friends the move would ‘destroy’ the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden’s involvement in Hunter’s shady business deals.

‘Bring it on,’ McCarthy said on Gaetz’s threats. ‘Let’s get this over with and focus and focus on what the American people want, securing our border, ending wasteful spending and achieving everything we said we could achieve.

Gaetz also sent out a fundraising email just moments before he announced, with the subject line ‘vacate McCarthy’.
