Amy Dowden has revealed her Strictly co-star Carlos Gu does a secret signal on the show to tell her he is thinking of her.
The professional dancer, 33, has been forced to miss this year’s series as she goes through chemotherapy after being diagnosed with breast cancer in May.
Amy underwent a mastectomy in June before doctors discovered she was also battling another form of cancer and would need further treatment.
The television favourite said while she cried when she first watched the dancers lead their celebrities to the dancefloor, she took comfort when she saw her friend Carlos give a secret hand gesture.
Amy explained Carlos, 30, whom she formed a close friendship over the years after competing with him professionally, makes the signal to reassure Amy he is missing her.

Of their close friendship, Amy told The Mirror Carlos also wants to shave his head in tribute to her.
Amy decided to shave her hair off completely after feeling devastated as she watched it fall out from chemotherapy.
She said: ‘Carlos was crying when I showed him, he wants to shave his head, too.
‘He’s adamant, and that he’s getting a tattoo, a breast cancer one, but I’ve told him he’s not allowed to shave his head, he’s on Strictly.’
Carlos is competing with The One Show presenter Angela Scanlon in this year’s series.
Amy said she was desperate to be a part of the first live show but her health at the moment has prevented her from being able to move in the way she is used to.
She said she has seen her body change and has gained weight as a side effect from her treatment.
‘I am missing everything’, Amy added.

It comes after Amy revealed she nearly died due to the side effects of chemotherapy amid her breast cancer battle.
The Welsh professional dancer had the terrifying near-death experience after her first and second round of chemo she was rushed to hospital with sepsis and then blood clots.
She is now on blood thinners now for six months after the ‘frightening’ experience.
Amy also told how she at first wanted to refuse chemo as it would be ‘Strictly, her hair and her life gone’ but was ultimately persuaded to do it.
Amy underwent IVF to create and freeze embryos before starting her treatment with hopes to have children with her husband Ben Jones in the future.
A friend told her there was no point in her freezing her embryos as if she didn’t have the chemo she wouldn’t ‘be around to have these babies anyway’.
