Police have launched a probe after a person jumped into the 9/11 North Tower Memorial.
The person survived the leap, diving into the 18ft reflecting pool, which was briefly cordoned off, according to the New York Times.
Officials told the Times that the jumper was a relative of a 9/11 victim who was ‘briefly granted access to the restricted area at the plaza-level.’
They had been looking at their loved one’s name on the memorial, with the area reopening a short time later.
Security officials reportedly told the Times the relative survived the leap into the 18-inch deep water, and complained of back pain.
This is a developing story.
