A suspected armed attacker has been shot and taken to hospital after crashing his car into the Chinese consulate in San Francisco sparking a major emergency response.
Dozens of first responders are attending the incident outside the consulate on Geary Boulevard, San Francisco.
The SF Standard reported that the suspect was shot by a police officer and that bomb squad technicians and an explosives-sniffing dog were brought to the scene amid fear of potential explosives.
A neighbor who lives immediately next door reported hearing four or five shots before people rushed out of the consulate and into its courtyard.
The building was evacuated and a white tarp has been placed over the Geary Street entrance to the building where visa applications are processed.

It is unclear whether any suspect remains at large but the driver has been taken to hospital.
Police tweeted: ‘Please avoid the area of Laguna St and Geary Blvd due to ongoing police activity.
‘Media staging will be published shortly.’
