A mother has revealed her son has made incredible progress in hospital as he slowly recovers after he was pinned between two cars a fortnight ago.
Huseyin Pek, eight, was playing soccer with his brother Burak, three, in the driveway of their grandparent’s home in Braybrook, Melbourne, when a car accelerated towards them on September 26.
Ngoc Thanh Vo was allegedly behind the wheel of his Toyota Prado when it pinned Huseyin between its bull bar and the rear end of another car.
Demet Aydin thought that her child was dead when she saw what had happened, but after 15 days in hospital Huseyin is now able to talk and eat again.
Vo has been charged with reckless conduct endangering serious injury, unlicensed driving and careless driving.

Pek was playing soccer with his brother Burak, three, in Braybrook, Victoria on September 26 when he suffered critical injuries and was rushed to the Royal Children’s Hospital
Vo allegedly hit three parked cars before pinning Huseyin. Upon hearing the commotion, Ms Aydin rushed out of her home thinking her son was dead.
‘I thought I lost him. I was just screaming, “I lost him, I lost him”,’ she told 7News.
Burak was hit by another car which had been pushed during the collision and suffered light injuries while his older brother was critically injured.
Huseyin had multiple serious injuries and doctors at the Royal Children’s Hospital thought that he was a goner at first.
He has since undergone seven successful surgeries and can now talk and eat by himself, doctors are also optimistic about him regaining the ability to walk.
An arterial surgery is booked in for Friday for Huseyin.
The recovery time is expected to be more than 12 months and he is receiving skin grafts on a daily basis, according to his mother.
Despite the setbacks, Huseyin has resumed his studies and is completing homework from his hospital bed and says that he is healthy.
‘(I’m) healthy (and) in good hands with my doctors and nurses,’ he said in a video recorded by his mother.

Pek can now eat and talk by himself but his recovery is expected to last for more than one year
A GoFundMe has been organised by Ms Aydin to help fund her son’s recovery and afford her some time off of work so that she can be by his side.
The original goal was set at $30,000 but has since rocketed past $71,000.
Ms Aydin said that her son still struggles to look at himself in the mirror, but is on the road to recovery.
Vo appeared before the Melbourne Magistrates Court and it heard he was unlicensed and generally unfamiliar with driving a car when drove around the block in his Prado.
He had arrived in Australia from Vietnam six days before he allegedly got behind the wheel of the Prado on his own.
Vo is now on bail and is expected to face sentencing on January 31, 2024.
