There are early reports some Jewish synagogues are in lockdown in Sydney‘s eastern suburbs as police conduct patrols in the area.
Jewish places of worship in Rose Bay, Vaucluse and Dover Heights have been secured though police have confirmed there is no immediate threat to the public.
Initial reports of an armed man in the area proved unfounded as police confirmed there was no weapons had been located.
‘Just after midday on Saturday, officers from Eastern Suburbs Police Area Command were called to New South Head Road, Vaucluse, following reports of suspicious activity in the area,’ police said in a statement.
‘Officers conducted an extensive and thorough search of the area; however, nothing was located.
‘There is no threat to the public. Inquiries are continuing’.
The unconfirmed reports come as tensions rise around the world in the wake of the Hamas terrorist attack on Israel earlier this week, and Israel’s firm response.
The reports come a day after three men were arrested for making Hitler salutes outside the Sydney Jewish Museum.
It’s understood the trio – aged 30, 31, and 40 – allegedly intoxicated, were doing Nazi salutes outside the museum in Darlinghurst shortly after midday on Friday.
The three have each been charged with behave in offensive manner in/near public place/school, and knowingly display by public act Nazi symbol without excuse.
All three have been granted bail and Daily Mail Australia was on the scene as two of the men walked free from Kings Cross police station about 6.30pm Friday.
