Sophia Celentano, 21, from South Carolina, shared her ‘best coffee ordering hack’ this month on TikTok, where she is known as @sophiacelentano48 and has more than 39,000 followers.
‘It feels illegal that I just got this coffee for $3. I feel like I’ve become a pro at getting the cheapest drinks possible at Starbucks,’ she boasted at the start of the video.
Sophia Celentano, 21, from South Carolina, revealed her hack for getting a large Starbucks iced latte for less than $4 on TikTok
The University of Virginia student explained that you should use the Starbucks app to order an iced triple espresso in a venti cup with whatever cream and cold foam you want on top
Celentano said the trick is to order an iced triple espresso in a venti cup on the Starbucks app with whatever cream and cold foam you want on top.
She opted for a splash of oat milk and cinnamon sweet cream cold foam, according to the order she shared on the screen.
The drink itself cost $3.25 and included the choice of milk while the cold foam was an additional $1.25.
‘Usually, this drink ends up being right under $5,’ she explained. ‘But if you have 25 stars in your account, which really isn’t that hard to get, you can customize your drink for free.’
Starbucks rewards users earn one star per $1 dollar they spend when they scan their member barcode in the app.
Since Celentano had 25 stars saved, she was able to get the cold foam for free.
‘So this drink was literally less than $4, and I usually end up spending at least double that,’ she said. ‘I just love that you can customize this. You can use whatever creamer you want. You can add in whatever cold foams they have in stock.
‘I’ve been switching back and forth between the cinnamon sweet cream one and the pumpkin cream one for fall. I am a bitter coffee girl, so I love the fact that this actually has a strong coffee taste with the espresso shots.’
Celentano added that she is a Starbucks Rewards member and used the 25 stars she had earned to get the cold foam for free
For someone who likes ‘things that are more sweet,’ she recommended getting ‘the blonde roast instead of the signature roast.’
‘Words can’t describe,’ she gushed, after taking a sip of her beverage.
‘Honestly, I think this is better than a lot of their signature lattes that end up being $8. My life changed when I figured out this hack.’
Celentano’s video has been viewed more than 61,000 times and has received dozens of comments since it was posted on October 5.
‘I’ve been doing this for like 5 years and it’s literally my favorite way to get Starbs. It’s definitely for people who like the coffee taste!’ one fan responded.
‘I tried this hack yesterday and loveddd it,’ another added.
Jade Leasy shared how she orders Starbucks’ Pumpkin Spice Latte for just $4 by getting a double espresso over ice in a venti cup with whole milk and pumpkin cream cold foam
‘It’s going to taste exactly like a pumpkin spice latte and you spent maybe $3.50, $3.75,’ the content creator said
And Celentano isn’t the only Starbucks fan who has been touting this hack online.
In August, Jade Leasy, who uses the handle @jadeleasy, celebrated the return of Starbucks’ famous Pumpkin Spice Latte by sharing how she orders one for just $4.
The price of a Pumpkin Spice Latte varies from market to market, and a venti-size drink ranges from $6.25 to $7.25, a company spokesperson told Insider.
‘Normally a Starbucks latte with run you about $8,’ Leasy explained at the start of her video. ‘I get mine for $3.75 — $4 max.
‘Here’s what I do. You’re going to order two espresso shots over ice, okay? They’re going to charge around $2.25-$2.50.’
She noted that most people don’t know that you can get up to four ounces of milk free of charge in your drink at the coffee chain.
Many content creators have shared similar iced espresso orders over the years, claiming they cost $4 or less
However, critics have argued that when they tried the hack for themselves, their venti cup was only filled halfway, or they ended up paying more than expected
‘So I have them add whole milk in my drink, and then you’re gonna ask for pumpkin sweet cream cold foam,’ she added. ‘It’s going to taste exactly like a pumpkin spice latte and you spent maybe $3.50, $3.75.’
However, critics have argued that when they tried the hack for themselves, their venti cup was only filled halfway, or they ended up paying more than expected.
Some Starbucks employees have also chimed in, saying the drink only looks like a venti because of the ice.
‘We will give you half an inch of milk. not to the top. you receive an inch of cold foam regardless. this isn’t a hack, you’re getting less beverage,’ one barista commented on Celentano’s video.
‘It just looks full because of the ice lol,’ the person added. ‘If you get extra milk we do about 3/4 an inch, but that’s as much as we’re allowed to give for iced espresso.’
